Pro Stock Tour Off Labour Day Weekend
Halifax, NS (August 29, 2007) – The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is taking its traditional Labour Day weekend break. Racing action will continue on September 8th with the Parts For Trucks 200 at Scotia Speedworld. This is event 10 of the 10-event season.
The championship point’s standings are close all through the standings, which means that drivers will be looking to maximize their finish in the Parts For Trucks 200 on September 8th. Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS holds a slim 31-point lead over Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB. Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS, who has won five races in 2007, sits in third 10 points back of Tucker. Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE holds fourth place 50 points out of first and Chris Hughes of Winsloe, PE is 81 points back in fifth place.
All the teams are working on their cars to ensure they are ready for the Parts For Trucks 200, so as to maximize their points in the CARQUEST Point Fund. $50,000 is paid to the top 20 cars in the yearly championship points standings, with the winner taking home $10,000. Although the money certainly helps the teams, it is the sense of accomplishment and the bragging rights that drive the teams.
Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, NB has a firm hold on the EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year award, with Darren MacKinnon of Winsloe, PE in second place.
The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour visits four different race tracks in the three Maritime Provinces on the east coast of Canada: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Facilities are required to meet specific criteria for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour events; ensuring quality shows for the audience and the competitors.
