Smith Dominants Lucas Oil 100
Halifax, NS (July 7, 2007) - Wayne Smith of Timberlea, NS, with a dominant performance, won the Lucas Oil 100 at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday night. Smith led 60 laps in total of the 100 lap feature, taking the lead for the final 48 laps.
Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS finished second followed closely by Kent Vincent of Crapaud, PE in third. Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB was fourth and Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS rounded out the top five.
Thirty of the Maritimes best drivers attempted to qualify for the Lucas Oil 100. Turple was the fastest car in the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials with a time of 14.611. Darren Vanderaa of Winsloe, PE won the first qualifying heat race, with Daryl Mahar of Hubley, NS taking the second heat race and John Flemming of Halifax, NS grabbing the third. Frank Fraser of Shunbenacadie was a popular winner, capturing the Urquhart MacDonald Associates B feature.
Vincent was the halfway leader, while Smith led the most laps.
