Parts For Trucks 100 At Raceway Park
Halifax, NS (June 27, 2007) – The Parts For Trucks 100 is set for Saturday, June 30th, on the newly paved Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge, PE. In what has become a tradition, the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour hosts an event on Canada Day weekend in beautiful Prince Edward Island.
Points leader Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, NB rolls into the weekend with a slim 10 point lead over Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS, the 2005 EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year. Current Rookie of the Year leader Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, NB sits four back of Turple and 14 back of Tucker in the 2007 points standings. Two Islanders, Chris Hughes of Winsloe and Kent Vincent of Crapaud round out the top five drivers in points.
Chasing Sommerville in the 2007 EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year race are Darren MacKinnon of Winsloe, PE and Gary Bursey of Moncton, NB. Jonathan Hicken, Brudenell, PE sits in fourth place, despite running a limited schedule in 2007.
Twenty-six of the best pro stock drivers in the Maritimes, including past champions Rollie MacDonald and Wayne Smith, are making the trip to the inaugural race at the newly refurbished Raceway Park. Others are veteran Bobby White of Kennetcook, NS, Stacey Clements of Five Island Lake, NS, Greg Proude of North Wiltshire, PE, Brad Mann of Glen Livet, NB and Dale Holmes of West Covehead, PE.
Add to the above Frank Fraser of Shubenacadie, NS, Daryl Mahar of Hubley, NS, Darren Vanderaa of Winsloe, PE, Kris Fournier of Charlottetown, PE, Mike Stevens of Riverview, NB, Kent Livingston of Charlottetown, PE, Roger Crane of Montague, PE, Sandy Livingston of Springhill, NS, Tim Rogers of Upper Coverdale, NB, Shawn Pierce of Bridgewater, NS and Robbie MacLean of Winsloe, PE and you have a stout field of cars.
Everyone will be gunning to be the first winner on the newly paved track. Greg Proude is the defending champion of the 2006 Parts For Trucks 100.
This event is the second stage of the four-race Parts For Trucks Challenge, which presents bonus awards at year-end to the top three drivers in overall points from the Parts For Trucks races.
The question on everyone’s mind is, how different is the re-paved track and how much faster after testing last night the answer is not much different, but faster by about a second. This could make for an interesting race Saturday night.
The racers who banded together to form the Racers Pavement Fund Inc. and those that supported them are to be congratulated for their efforts. The fruit of those efforts will be on display Saturday in front of what is expected to be a large crowd at Raceway Park. You are all encouraged to come on out to the race and support the Racers Pavement Fund Inc.’s efforts to further stock car racing in Prince Edward Island.
Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials are set for 5:10 PM, with racing at 6:00 PM. Raceway Park is located in Oyster Bed Bridge, PE at the intersection of routes 6 and 7, halfway between Cavendish and Charlottetown.
