Turple Wins Lucas Oil 100

HALIFAX, NS (May 25, 2008) - Shawn Turple of Enfield won the Lucas Oil 100 at Scotia Speedworld, located near the Halifax International Airport on Saturday night. Turple took the lead on lap 80 to take the first Halcraft Print Checkered Flag of the season on the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour. Dave O'Blenis of Salisbury, NB finished second, ahead of Mike MacKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. Brad Mann of Glen Livet, NB and Wayne Smith of Timberlea rounded out the top five.

Smith won the Coast Tire Most Laps Led Award. Over 1500 fans saw 12 cautions slow the event, which took over two hours to complete. A red flag involving ten cars on lap 83 marred the event, which was already rain delayed for three hours.

Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, NB, Turple and Russell Smith of Timberlea won heat races. Smith won the Dash for the Pole, featuring the top nine finishers in the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials. George Koszkulics of New Glasgow had the fastest time on the 3/10 mile oval, at an average speed at just under 73 miles per hour. None of the top five cars opted to take the Hipertech Pole Challenge.

Thirty-four of the Maritimes top drivers attempted to qualify for the Main Feature.

The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour returns to action in two weeks time, when it returns to the high banks of Riverside Speedway for the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100 for round two of the 2008 season.
