CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Heads to the Island for 200 Lap Race
(Halifax, NS, July 29, 2009) Saturday, August 1 marks the date for the Parts for Trucks/Lucas Oil 200 at Raceway Park in Oyster Bed Bridge on beautiful Prince Edward Island! The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour has scheduled this extended feature after being rained out back in June. Parts for Trucks will present the first 100 laps of the race and after a 30 minute intermission Lucas Oil will present the remaining 100 laps. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials are set to begin at 5:10pm, followed by the Dartmouth Dodge Dash for Cash getting underway at 6:00pm.
With half of the regular points races already accounted for in the Championship Point Standings, we find John Flemming leading the pack, but only by seven markers! Shawn Tucker - who has three feature wins so far this summer - is close on his bumper. Shawn Turple, Lonnie Sommerville, Wayne Smith, and Dave O'Blenis round out your top six in the point standings and are itching to move up the ladder.
Five of the next six drivers hail from the Island and will definitely be cars to watch on Saturday as the Maritime's best drivers hash it out on their home track! Watch out for Kent Vincent (who won at Raceway Park last season), Jonathan Hicken, Chris Hughes, and Greg Proude this Saturday on the ¼ mile oval.
A mandatory yellow flag will be drop at lap 100 where there will be a brief intermission which will allow the teams to tune up their cars for the final 100 laps of the event. During the intermission a few lucky fans will be awarded with some great prizes! The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour will be giving away tickets to next weekend's Atlantic CAT 250. Also, a few lucky fans will have the chance to take a ride in pace car, wave the green flag to start the second half of the race, and win a chance at some VIP seating for the second half of the race.
The results of the Parts for Trucks/Lucas Oil 200 will also count towards the Parts for Trucks Challenge - a contingency program in which drivers accumulate points based on their finishing positions in each of the four Parts for Trucks sponsored events during the 2009 season. A cash bonus is paid to the top three Parts for Trucks Challenge points-getters at the year end banquet. Following last weekend's Parts for Trucks 100 at Speedway 660 Flemming and Tucker are only 3 markers apart for the top spot, but Turple, Sommerville, and Smith will try to mix those standings up this weekend!
Admission is $30 for Adults (16 and over), $5 for Youth (ages 8-15); children seven and under are admitted free. Tickets are available at the gate. Gates open at 3pm.
