CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Heads to Speedway 660 for Parts for Trucks 100

(Halifax, NS, June 23, 2009) Mother Nature has not been gentle on the start of the 2009 racing season. Last weekend's Lucas Oil 100 at Raceway Park was cancelled due to impending weather. A new date for the event will be announced shortly. This weekend the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is heading to Speedway 660 for Saturday's Parts for Trucks 100 and everyone has their fingers crossed that Mother Nature will show her kinder side.

Speedway 660 is located in Geary, NB, just outside of Saint John and Fredericton. The 1/3 mile paved oval will host the first of four Parts for Trucks races this season on Saturday, June 27th. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials are set to begin at 6:10pm, followed by the Dartmouth Dodge Dash for Cash. Feature racing gets underway at 7:00pm.

After only two events for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour this season, the points battle is already heating up. The top four in points are separated by a mere eight markers and 5th through 20th are only separated by thirty points. The Parts for Trucks 100 could be a crucial turning point in the season for some of the Tour's top teams.

Speaking of top teams, Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John NB is currently tied for first in the point standings with Enfield's Shawn Turple. In the July race at Speedway 660 last season Sommerville swept the event. The #23 car had the fastest lap during time trials (13.588 seconds, 66.381 mph), won the dash for the pole, and led all 100 laps of the feature. Sommerville will definitely be a car to watch this weekend.

Craig Slaunwhite of Halifax could be another contender at 660 on Saturday, having won the prestigious Peterbilt 250 in September of '08. Shawn Tucker of Fredericton will also look to impress on his home turf and of course you can never count out the Oval Outlaw and defending CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour Champion Wayne Smith and his #44 team.

The Parts for Trucks Challenge will also come into play this weekend at Speedway 660. The Parts for Trucks Challenge is a contingency program in which drivers accumulate points based on their finishing positions in each of the four Parts for Trucks sponsored events during the 2009 season. A cash bonus is paid to the top three Parts for Trucks Challenge points-getters at the year end banquet.

Saturday's event will also feature regular points racing in the Speedway 660 Martin's Home Heating Sportsman and Coast Tire Street Stock divisions.

Admission is $20 for Adults (16 and over), $15 for Youth (ages 9-15); children eight and under are admitted free. A Family Pass is available for $75 - good for two adults, two youth AND four pop and four fries.
