The Field is Set for the Atlantic CAT 250 at Scotia Speedworld
(Halifax, NS, August 6, 2010) Ben Rowe of Turner, Maine will start on the Pole for Halifax’s biggest stock car event of the season on Saturday, August 7th at Scotia Speedworld. The Atlantic CAT 250 is round two of three for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour’s Triple Crown mini-series. Drivers and crews will be vying for a purse of almost $60,000.00 Saturday evening on the 3/10 mile oval, located adjacent to the Halifax International Airport. Gates open at 2pm with racing set to start with a 100 lap Sportsman feature at 5pm.
Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials started the Friday evening qualifying schedule. Cassius Clark flew around the track in just 14.278 seconds. Clark is driving Jonathan Hicken’s Chapman Brothers Construction/Castle Building Centers Chevrolet Impala for the weekend as he stands in wedding. When it came time for the Dartmouth Dodge Dash For Cash, Wayne Smith and Greg Proude started on the front line, but halfway through they got together in turn four to bring out a caution. When the checkered flag fell, it was Ben Rowe driving the #10 Dexter Construction Chevrolet Impala, teammate to the defending Champion Shawn Turple for the weekend, who crossed the line first and thus will start the prestigious event on the pole. Sitting beside him on the outside will be #8 Vector Aerospace/H&P Glover/Reliable Motors ride of Kent Vincent.
Following the initial rounds of qualifying, fans were treated to three Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races to determine the remainder of the starting grid. Halifax’s Mike MacKenzie, Terence Bay’s Craig Slaunwhite, and Saint John’s Lonnie Sommerville crossed the line first in those ten lap shootouts. All 27 drivers who attempted to qualify will race to win their piece of the close to $60,000 that is on the line tomorrow.
Saturday’s festivities get underway at 5:00pm with a 100 lap Sportsman feature which should keep fans on the edge of their seat leading up to the main event….the Atlantic CAT 250. Immediately following the Sportsman race is a Pro Stock Tour autograph session, followed by opening ceremonies and the Atlantic CAT 250!
