Cassius Clark Takes Home Over $15,000 at Atlantic CAT 250

(Halifax, NS, August 7, 2010) Cassius Clark of Farmington, Maine dominated the Atlantic CAT 250 field on Saturday night at Scotia Speedworld. Clark was driving the #5 Chapman Brothers Construction/Castle Building Centers Chevrolet Impala for PEI’s Jonathan Hicken and did him proud bringing home close to $16,000. Although Clark led 227 laps, he didn’t come by the win easily, as Shawn Tucker challenged him late in the race. Tucker did manage to overtake him at one point, but only for one lap. Tucker’s Rockico Truck & Trailer/AL Gullison Chevrolet Impala run out of Fredericton, NB finally settled for second place.

The battle for the top prize wasn’t the only one to watch at the end of the race. Ben Rowe (Turner, ME), Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), and Donald Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) battled for the final three spots in the top five for the last stretch of green flag racing. None of them managed to make a move however, and came across the line third, forth, and fifth respectively. Rowe was driving a sister car to Shawn Turple’s and was dressed in the Dexter Construction/Municipal Group’s red and yellow. O’Blenis had his Burger King ride at the 1/3 mile for the second Triple Crown Event of the 2010 season. Chisholm’s Keltic Ford/Nova Construction Ford Fusion rounded out the top five.

Leading those 227 laps gave Clark the Scotia Emergency Most Laps Led Award as well as the Ledwidge Lumber Halfway Award. Leonard Boutilier finished 16th overall which was the highest finish for a rookie giving him the EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Race Award.

Prior to the Atlantic CAT 250, the capacity crowd of over 5,000 fans were treated to a 100 lap Sportsman race. Colby Smith made the trip from Cape Sable Island well worth it as he took home his first Sportsman win at Scotia Speedworld. Smith was followed by Darren Wallage, Russell Smith Jr, Tony Leonard, and Steve Ross. After post race inspection, Ross was disqualified and the rookie atop the point standings as of July 30th, Mike Alexander eventually rounded out the top five.

The CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour returns to action next Saturday night for the Parts For Trucks 100 at Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, NS. For complete information please head to www.riversidespeedway.ca .
