Wayne Smith Wins Lucas Oil 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway

(Oyster Bed Bridge, PE, July 31, 2010) – In front of a capacity crowd, the “Oval Outlaw” Wayne Smith (Timberlea, NS) piloted his Jetco Contracting/ICI Paints/Color Your World Bayers Lake Chevrolet Impala to a hard fought victory at the Lucas Oil 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday night. Following him across the line after a late caution resulted in a green, white, checkered situation for the second week in a row were Island natives Jonathan Hicken and Kent Vincent. Hicken in his Chapman Brothers sponsored Impala and the Vector Aerospace/H&P Glover Dodge Charger of Vincent challenged him through the last half of the race with Vincent taking the lead for 11 laps at one point. Donald Chisholm of Antigonish, NS in his Nova Construction Ford Fusion and Fredericton’s Shawn Tucker in his Rockico Truck & Trailer Impala rounded out the top five.

Although Vincent overtook him at one point, Smith took home the Scotia Emergency Vehicle Services Most Laps Led Award after leading 86 laps which included lap 50 gaining him the Ledwidge Lumber Halfway Award as well. Jerome Kehoe (Sydney, NS) came home in 9th place to give him his third top ten finish of his rookie season and also won him the EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Race.

Drivers were forewarned that Smith was going to be a car to reckon with Saturday night after he took the Atlantic Tiltload Fast Time earlier in the evening. He laid down a lap of 13.311 seconds reaching a speed of 81.136 mph. After the top ten mix up and the ten lap Dartmouth Dodge Dash For Cash, fans were delighted to see Kent Vincent leading the pack to start the Lucas Oil 100. Jerome Kehoe and Daryl Mahar (Hubley, NS) collected Dartmouth Dodge Heat Race victories. All 20 drivers who attempted to qualify raced in the Lucas Oil 100.

The next event for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is the second Crown Jewel event of the season – the Atlantic CAT 250 at Scotia Speedworld located just outside of Halifax, NS. Can the Oval Outlaw propel the momentum from Saturday night through the week for back to back wins or will another lucky driver take home the top prize?
