Proude Takes First Checkered Flag at Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100

(Halifax, NS, June 19, 2010) – Springvale, PE’s Greg Proude took the elusive first checkered flag of the 2010 season of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour at the end of the Ron MacGIllivray Chevrolet Buick GMC 100 at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, NS on Saturday night. Proude battled hard to lead the final 14 laps against Timberlea’s Wayne Smith who crossed the line only 0.317 seconds later. Donald Chisholm (Antigonish, NS), Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS), and Kent Vincent (Crapaud, PE) rounded out the top five.

Track conditions were fantastic Saturday as more than one driver managed to beat the existing track record throughout the day. In the end, it was eventual race winner Greg Proude that bested them all and came away with the fastest time in Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials. He piloted his 2010 Dodge Charger around the 1/3 mile high banked facility in only 14.102 seconds. After a mix up of the ten fastest cars, they battled it out in a ten lap shootout to decide the front half of the 24 car field. It was Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS who won the Dartmouth Dodge Dash which landed him the pole position for the Main Feature. As qualifying continued, eventual Dartmouth Dodge Heat Race winners were Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) and Kent Vincent. All 24 cars who attempted to qualify made the main event.

Turple would take home the Scotia Emergency Vehicle Services Most Laps Led award as well as the Ledwidge Lumber Halfway Award after leading over half of the event. Leonard Boutilier finished in the 14th position of the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet Buick GMC 100, which was good enough for the EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Race Award.

The next event for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is the Parts for Trucks 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway in Oyster Bed Bridge, PE. Can Greg Proude win back to back events or will other hometown favorites such as Scott Livingston and Darren MacKinnon shine at the track at which they cut their teeth. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials at 5:10pm with the Dartmouth Dodge Qualifying for the Parts For Trucks 100 set to roll at 6pm on Saturday, June 26.
