Hicken Makes Hometown Crowd Proud With Victory at Parts For Trucks 100
(Halifax, NS, June 27, 2010) – Brudenell, PE’s Jonathan Hicken in his #5 Castle Building Center Chevrolet Impala got his first ever CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour win on Sunday afternoon at the Parts For Trucks 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway. Hicken overtook John Flemming’s #97 Roofing Connection Halifax based Dodge on lap 95, who had led for most of the race, to secure the victory. Shawn Turple of Enfield, NS brought his Dexter Construction Chevrolet Impala home third, followed by Greg Proude’s APM/Atlantic Dodge Dealers Dodge Charger (Springvale, PE) and Craig Slaunwhite’s Halifax Glass & Mirror Impala (Terence Bay, NS) to complete the top five.
Saturday’s schedule was sporadic with rain delaying and eventually postponing the majority of the day’s events until Sunday. Before it was officially postponed the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials were completed with the exception of one driver (who took his laps on Sunday) and the crowd saw Greg Proude make his way around the track fastest for the second weekend in a row with a time of 13.392sec. Things got underway on Sunday with the remainder of the qualifying starting with the Dartmouth Dodge Dash For Cash which saw Flemming win the right to start on the pole for the Parts For Trucks 100 main feature. Up next were the Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races where Wayne Smith (Timberlea, NS), Darren Vanderaa (Milton, PE), and Daryl Mahar (Hubley, NS) were awarded the wins. All 27 cars who attempted to qualify made the main event.
Flemming would take home the Scotia Emergency Vehicle Services Most Laps Led award as well as the Ledwidge Lumber Halfway Award after leading 70 of the 100 Parts For Trucks sponsored laps. Jerome Kehoe finished in the 15th position to secure the EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Race Award.
The next event for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is the Lockhart Truck Center 100 at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, NS. Can Jonathan Hicken carry the momentum of his first win through to next week at Scotia Speedworld or will the 2009 defending champion Shawn Turple or 2008 Rookie of the Year Craig Slaunwhite be able to use the home track advantage to get their first win? Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials at 5:10pm with the Dartmouth Dodge Qualifying for the Lockhart Truck Center 100 set to roll at 6pm on Saturday, July 3rd.
