Clark Dominates Final Leg of Triple Crown Series at Speedway 660
(Geary, NB, September 5, 2010) – Hallowell, Maine’s Johnny Clark led 210 laps of the race on Saturday night in his effort to win the final leg of the Triple Crown Series. Enfield, Nova Scotia’s Shawn Turple (Dexter Construction) started the race on the pole, led the first 16 laps, and then raced in the top ten the entire race. He eventually took over the lead from Clark on a restart, but could not hang on for any green flag racing. He settled for second place for the second year in a row for this event. After being involved in a mid-race incident, Fredericton, New Brunswick’s Shawn Tucker (AL Gullison Disaster Kleep Up) fought his way back to the front and came home with a third place finish. Springvale, PE’s Greg Proude (APM/Atlantic Dodge Dealers) and Morrill, ME’s Travis Benjamin (Irving Lubricants) rounded out the top five.
With 37 drivers on site vying for only 28 spots, qualifying on a beautiful Sunday afternoon was fierce. Turple, Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE), Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), and Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB) all took home wins in the heat races. Following the heats were three “consi” races which were won by Scott Chubback (Dresden, ME), Kevin Moore (Fredericton, NB), and Ben Rowe (Turner, ME). The last opportunity for drivers to “race” their way into the 250 lap Main Feature was the “Last Chance” Race. Travis Kittleson of Merritt Island, ME was the victor.
This race marked the final event of the Triple Crown of Maritime Racing. Shawn Tucker became Champion by a slim margin of one marker over Jonathan Hicken. Wayne Smith was third, followed by Kent Vincent and Shawn Turple.
The next event for the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour is the Parts For Trucks 200 Season Finale at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, NS. Can Tucker become a three time champion? Or will Shawn Turple become a back to back Champion? Additional event information can be found by going to www.MaritimeProStockTour.com.
