Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Celebrates 2011 at Awards Banquet
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE (November 26, 2011) - The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour officially closed the 2011 season on Saturday night in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island at the Delta Prince Edward with the series' annual Awards Gala. The eighteen full time competitors of the series were honoured for their accomplishments and shared in the $50,000 point fund in front of 300 guests, which included series drivers, crews, sponsors, staff and fans.
Wayne Smith of Timberlea, Nova Scotia collected the biggest award for the evening as champion of the 11th edition of the region's largest stock car touring series. Smith, who won his record setting sixth Maritime touring championship during the Summer of 2011, pocketed $10,000 for his win from series sponsor Parts for Trucks. The champion also received a custom championship ring from series sponsor Inglis Jewellers of Truro, Nova Scotia. Smith scored one win on the season at Petty International Speedway (NB) and only finished outside the top five twice in the twelve week schedule en route to the championship.
Rudi Foster from Parts for Trucks presented Junior Kelly from the Scott Kelly Memorial Toy Fund at the IWK with a $2,000 cheque prior to the awards presentations. Monies were raised throughout the 2011 campaign through Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour hat sales.
Vendor draws were made at the beginning of the ceremonies. John Flemming (Halifax, NS), Kent Vincent (Crapaud, PE) and former three-time champ Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB) took home product sponsorships from Lucas Oil. Alpine Racing presented Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) with an ABC Re-skin package while Five Star Bodies awarded Jerome Kehoe (Sydney, NS) with a race car body. R&D Performancenter gave Flemming a $250 gift certificate to their shop. The Linde Group Welder was also awarded to Flemming. The welder was used throughout the season on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and was available to teams when it was needed.
The Atlantic Tiltload Time Trial Award went to 2009 series titlist Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) for his performance in qualifying throughout the season. Flemming (Halifax, NS) led 382 laps this season to collect .The Linde Group Most Laps Led Award. Flemming, a three time champion of the series, also pocketed the Urquhart MacDonald Drive to the Front Award as the most improved driver compared to a season ago. Vincent and Tucker were voted by their peers as the Most Sportsmanlike Drivers on the series and were awarded the Cathy Ledwidge Memorial Most Sportsmanlike Driver Award.
With the banquet closing off the 2011 season, all eyes will now focus on the 2012 season. While many announcements will be made throughout the winter, the first was made at the 2011 Awards Gala as the Crowne Plaza in downtown Moncton, New Brunswick will host next season's year-ending banquet on Saturday, November
24th, 2012.
