TWO-TIME DAYTONA 500 CHAMP JOINS PRO STOCKS FOR ADVANCE RENTALS 150

(Halifax, NS, Aug 2, 2012) NASCAR Veteran Sterling Marlin will join the field for Saturday’s Advance Rentals 150 at Oyster Bed Speedway, located just outside of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.  The two-time Daytona 500 Champion is entered in the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s second and final event of the season at Oyster Bed Speedway. The Advance Rentals 150 will mark round eight of 12 for the pro stocks and is the first of only two 150 lap events on the 2012 schedule. Grandstand and pit gates open at 12:30 PM, with a one-hour autograph session slated to take place as part of pre-race ceremonies. Tickets for the Advance Rentals 150 will be available at the gate on race day.

Marlin, who hails from Columbia, Tennessee, is scheduled to pilot the No. 13 King Racing entry this Saturday. Marlin is the only driver to record Daytona 500 victories as his first two career NASCAR Cup Series wins (1994 & 1995), and is one of only three drivers to score back-to-back victories in the Daytona 500. Richard Petty (1973 &1974) and Cale Yarborough (1983 & 1984) have also accomplished this feat.  Marlin has 748 NASCAR Cup Series starts and 10 wins to his credit, tying him with Donnie Allison for 56th on NASCAR’s All-Time Wins list. Marlin finished a career-best third in Cup point standings in 1995 and 2001.

It's business as usual for the stars of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour as championship points are top of mind for these drivers. Three past series champions currently hold down the top three positions. John Flemming, (Halifax, NS) a three-time series champ (2002, ’03, ‘06), leads the points standing and is followed by Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB) also a three-time series champion (2004, ’07, ’10) and 2009 series champion Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS). Just 28 points separate the former series champs heading into the Advance Rentals 150 this weekend.
