CHISHOLM CAPTURES CHECKERS IN SPECTACULAR LUCAS OIL 100
(Oyster Bed Bridge, PE, June 30th, 2012) In a wild Lucas Oil 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday night, it was Donald Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) who outlasted the field on multiple late race restarts to take the victory in round five of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. Chisholm, in his #89 Keltic Ford Fusion, dueled with home track favorite Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell) for the majority of the second half of the race with Hicken having to settle for second on the night. Third place belonged to Darren MacKinnon (Charlottetown), who had to come from the rear of the field with 28 laps remaining after spending most of the race near the front. Completing the top five were John Flemming (Halifax, NS) and Leonard Boutilier (Dutch Settlement, NS), who scored his first career top five finish on the series.
The afternoon’s festivities kicked off with the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials event, which was paced by Chisholm with a qualifying lap of 13.521 seconds around the 1/3-mile oval. Greg Proude (Springvale) took top honours in the Fast Eddie Racewear Dash for Cash while Hicken and Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS)
picked up wins in the Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races. Chisholm, who grabbed his first ever series victory at the track, also took away the King Freight Lines Halfway and Linde Most Laps Led Awards by leading 77 laps. Former Oyster Bed track champion Terry Dougay was the top finishing Exide Batteries Rookie after finishing in 12th place, while Boutilier claimed the Absolute Traffic Services Hard Charger Award on the evening after picking up 11 spots in the feature. Six cautions slowed the race, which took one hour and 11 minutes to complete.
The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour now heads to New Brunswick’s Capital Region as Speedway 660 hosts Round #6 on the series on Saturday, July 7th at 7pm.
