PRO STOCK TOUR CLOSES 2013
WITH ANNUAL AWARDS GALA
(Halifax, NS. November 23, 2013) The curtain officially fell on the 2013 edition of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Saturday night in Moncton, New Brunswick with the series annual awards gala. Over 200 drivers, crews, sponsors, officials and fans of the series gathered at the Crowne Plaza Moncton to honor their accomplishments from this past season. The top 16 drivers from 2013 shared in the $50,000 Parts for Trucks point fund, with $10,000 going to the champion of the series, John Flemming. For Flemming, it was his fourth series title and first since 2006.
Along with the series championship and prize money comes a ring commissioned by Inglis Jewelers. In addition to his championship, Flemming also collected the Linde Group Most Laps Led Award and the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trial Award for 2013.
Dylan Blenkhorn was honored as the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year. Blenkhorn, who finished eighth overall in the series, was the top of three freshman in 2013.
Mike Stevens was the winner of the Cathy Ledwidge Memorial Most Sportsmanlike Driver Award. Voted on by his peers, the award is considered one of the most prestigious awards on the series.
Shawn Tucker was voted as the first Irving Blending and Packaging Fan Favourite Award. Fans cast votes on the award throughout the month of November. Hicken and Flemming were second and third in the voting, respectively.
New for 2013 was the Mike Stevens Crew Award, given to the most dedicated and valuable crew on the series. The award was presented to the #4 R. Stevens Mechanical/Artic Cat G. Bourque Chevrolet team.
Jake Urquhart from Urquhart MacDonald and Associates presented Shawn Pierce with the Drive to the Front Award. Pierce, from Bridgewater, NS, picked up four positions in the point standings over 2012 to collect the award.
Darren Mackinnon collected the EIT Race Radios Consistency Award. This award went to the driver with the highest point finish in the 2013 season that did not collect a feature win.
Five draws among full-time teams were also made at the banquet for various prizes. Blenkhorn picked up a gift certificate to R&D Performance of Lower Onslow, NS, while Cole Butcher picked up a Five Star Body re-skin package from R&D Performance. Brad Mann took home an ARBodies re-skin package from MK Racing Products. Pierce, Denver Foran/King Racing and Steve Ross, were recipients of product sponsorships from Lucas Oil, good for the 2014 season. Craig Slaunwhite picked up a welder courtesy of Linde.
Tim’s Corner Motorsports made presentations for their annual Power Performer of the Year and the RacingSpectator.ca Driver of the Year Award. Shawn Tucker was selected out of a ballot of ten for the Power Performer of the Year while Mike Stevens was voted on by the fans to receive the Driver of the Year Award. Over 3,500 votes were cast in the balloting for the Driver of the Year honor.
Rudi Foster from Parts for Trucks presented a cheque to Krista Jamieson worth $4,000 for the Brody and David Stevens Living Memorial Fund. The money was raised from Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour hat and t-shirt sales in the 2013 season along with a match donation from series sponsor Parts for Trucks.
With the 2013 season wrapped up, the focus will now shift to the upcoming 2014 campaign. Schedule announcements along with rules and competition announcements are expected within the next few months.
