Lucas Oil 100 Kicks-Off Pro Stock tour Season on Saturday at Scotia Speedworld


(Halifax, NS, May 20, 2014) The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will open its 15th season of stock car racing this Saturday, May 23rd at Scotia Speedworld with the Lucas Oil 100. The season opener will launch the 12-race schedule that will take the Tour to five Maritime markets throughout the summer. Qualifying for the Lucas Oil 100 gets underway at 3:10 PM with racing slated for 4:00 PM. Grandstands gates open at 1:00 PM.

A trio of past series champions stood on top of the podium following the 2014 season opener. Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) who has won two Tour titles (2010, ’12) was the victor a year ago. John Flemming (Halifax, NS) finished second en route to his fifth series championship (2002 ‘03, ’06, ’13, ‘14). Shawn Tucker, (Fredericton, NB) a three-time series champion, (2004, ’07, ’10) rounded out the podium at this event last year. Tucker has scaled back from full-time competition for the upcoming season.

The Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year battle enters round one on Saturday. Two rookies with solid racing resumes have signaled their intention to compete full-time for the prestigious title. D.J. Casey (Prospect, NS) purchased a car that Flemming drove to two series championships. Joel Hickox (Cornwall, PE) has made limited starts on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour over recent years but is planning his first full-time season with the series in 2015.

Joe Chisholm and the gang from Race Time Radio will back on the road with the Tour for six events, beginning with Saturday’s Lucas Oil 100. Race broadcasts will be available for listeners absolutely free, no subscription necessary, via www.racetimeradio.com by clicking the “Listen Live” links in the upper right of the page, or by downloading their smart phone App, for iPad, iPhone, & Android.

The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends will kick off their 2015 campaign with a 50 lap feature prior to the Pro Stock feature.

Admission for Saturday’s season opener is $25.00 for adults; $5.00 for youth; pit admission is $30.00. Children 7 and under are admitted for free.  Tickets will be available at the gates on race day (Cash Only).

Sunday, May 24th will launch the 2015 season for Scotia Speedworld’s Weekly Racing Series, racing starts at 2:00 PM.
