TURPLE TOPS MARITIMERS AT THE RIDGE
As with last years Spring PASS North race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, three of our CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour drivers were in attendance to take on the best Super Late Model drivers in the Northeast. The 150-lap event was the opener on the PASS North season, which will see an event in our region in June at Speedway 660 during an off-weekend on the CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour schedule.
Shawn Turple and his Dexter Construction/Municipal Group Impala team picked up where they left off last year with a solid tenth place, lead lap finish in the main feature. The championship driver from Enfield navigated his #0 Chevrolet into fourth place in his heat race which meant he would start his car from the thirteenth spot on the feature grid. With some of the best racing teams represented from all over North America, the team is happy with their finish.
The feature featured a quick pace which saw only four cautions, which caught first time Beech Ridger Craig Slaunwhite off the lead lap at the end of the event. Slaunwhite, making his first foray south with his #99 Halifax Glass and Mirror Chevrolet had to qualify through a semi-feature to get to the big dance. Slaunwhite started twenty-third on the thirty-one car field and came home with a twenty-fifth place run. Slaunwhite premiered a new silver number #99 on the Southern Maine track which will look mighty sharp on track for the CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour opener on June 5th.
The Roofing Connection Dodge also made the haul South but was met with mixed results. John Flemming was one of the eight drivers failed to qualify for the main feature. Talk about a strong field of drivers - of those that couldn’t crack the feature field also included Jeremie Whorff, the winner of the 2006 Oxford 250.
The race was won by former Atlantic CAT 250 and Forbes 200 winner Mike Rowe. ’09 PASS 200 at Speedway 660 podium finisher Adam Bates came home with the second spot as Ben Rowe rounded out the top three at Beech Ridge. The next PASS North event takes place at White Mountain Motorsports Park in Northern New Hampshire on May 22nd.
Race fans in the Maritimes do not have long to wait until the local racing scene lights up again as the Lucas Oil 100 goes green on June 5th at Scotia Speedworld. Keep tabs on MaritimeProStockTour.com for ticket and event information as it becomes available!
