2009 Driver Preview: Jason Carnahan

Dale Holmes, Shawn Turple, Lonnie Sommerville, and Craig Slaunwhite all have a couple of things in common. All four have won races on the CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour as well as raced their way into championship contention in the series. Another thing they have in common — they all started their MPST racing careers by winning the coveted EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year Award!

In the weeks leading up to the series opening Lucas Oil 100 on May 23rd at Scotia Speedworld, we will profile the drivers running for the EIT Race Radios Rookie of the Year Award in '09 and get their expectations for the upcoming campaign on the Maritime tour. We start our look into the rookie race with Moncton?s Jason Carnahan.

Jason Carnahan is no stranger to racing in the Maritimes. He has been around racetracks in the area for several years, including spending the 2008 season as a pit crew member with the Dave O'Blenis #48 team. Carnahan got his taste of being behind the wheel in a Pro Stock car last October at the Atlantic Canadian Stock Car Championships at the Centre For Speed in Shediac, NB. He finished 18th while driving an O'Blenis prepared car in the big 150-lap event and also accomplished one important thing — he got to log laps in a Pro Stock car and gain experience for the upcoming season!

?We've purchased a winning Hamke Chassis to chase the '09 rookie title with,? said Carnahan earlier in the month. ?Wrenchin' on the #48 last season just wasn't enough for me, it's time to get up on the wheel and show these guys what I got!? Carnahan's hopes to drive the ?Flyin' 55? number, a number that brings back memories to the team and will bring flashbacks to fans across the Maritimes. ?Running the number we are this season was inspired by my cousin and former Sportsman standout, Zean Dutcher. I'm hoping that my crew and I can continue the family tradition and be a threat on raceday.?

Carnahan, along with the rest of the rookies, will be put to the test with a 12-race schedule that will take the drivers to five tracks and contesting four extra distance races — including three of the Maritimes' biggest races, the 250's at Riverside International Speedway, Scotia Speedworld and Speedway 660!
