Ten in '10, Part 2

If you can remember back to the start of the 2010 season, I made ten predictions here on Tim’s Corner about the 10th Anniversary Season CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour. For those that can’t remember back to the start of May, take a look back at Issue 30 of Tim’s Corner. While we have a moment, let’s take a final look back and see what held true in those crystal ball forecasts.

• #1 - The 2010 CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour Championship will not be locked up until lap 200 of the Parts for Trucks 200 at Scotia Speedworld in September.
  

  TRUE.

  Shawn Tucker clinched his third championship when he came across the stripe third in the Parts for Trucks 200. He would win the title by eighteen points – or the equivalent of nine main feature positions.

  
  

• #2 - There will be at least one new face holding a checkered flag at the end of a feature race.
  

  TRUE.

  Jonathan Hicken and Mike Stevens both won CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour main feature events to take their first ever Pro Stock victories.

  
  

• #3 - Familiar faces from past seasons will hold a feature checkered flag yet again.
  

  TRUE.

  The likes of Wayne Smith, Shawn Turple, Greg Proude and Lonnie Sommerville all returned to victory lane in 100-lap events. Donald Chisholm snapped a long winless streak by winning at his home track in 2010 while Kent Vincent took the IWK 250 title this season after going winless in ‘09. Cassius Clark and Johnny Clark took two of the three Triple Crown races at tracks they are accustomed to winning at.

  
  

• #4 - We will have no less than SIX different winners in eleven races this season.
  

  TRUE.

  We had ten different winners in eleven races. Check.

  
  

• #5 - The Triple Crown races will see three different winners in three races.
  

  TRUE.

  Kent Vincent took victory in the IWK 250 with Cassius Clark (Atlantic CAT 250) and Johnny Clark (Pro Stock 250) racking up over $42k between the two in the latter two Triple Crown events.

  
  

• #6 - The EIT Race Radio Rookie of the Year fight will be tough.
  

  TRUE.

  Ask Jerome Kehoe or Leonard Boutilier and they will tell you they had a see-saw battle all season long for the Rookie of the Year Award. Both had fantastic runs this season with the #98 edging the #45 in the final standings.

  
  

• #7 - Speaking of rookies, Brad Eddy will turn heads at the Triple Crown races later this summer.
  

  FALSE.

  The game plan for the Eddy racing team changed mid-way through the 2010 seaosn. Eddy has turned heads down south though racing in his #72 Brad Eddy Racing Limited Late Model in tracks within the Carolinas. Eddy also put in solid runs behind the wheel of his King Freight Lines backed Legend car here locally. One thing is for sure, 16 year old Brad Eddy will be one to watch in the upcoming seasons!

  
  

• #8 - Joyce’s French Fries at Speedway 660 and Rudy’s Hamburgers at Scotia Speedworld will be better than ever.
  

  VERY TRUE.

  The famous Speedway Fries at 660 and Rudy’s Hamburgers at the Speedworld once again greeted hungry fans of the Pro Stock Tour to their respective tracks. During the season, I also became a fan of Oyster Bed Speedway’s Popcorn Chicken and Wilma’s Gourmet Jumbo Hotdogs at Riverside. Hats off to all the canteen staff throughout the Maritime tracks!

  
  

• #9 - I will try to not attempt to fly or sit on freshly painted walls this season as was done last summer.
  

  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

  I made sure to check all walls for wet paint before sitting or leaning on them and didn’t fly out of any moving vehicle – though Darren Leonard gave me a scare at Scotia this season! :)

  
  

• #10 - Mother Nature will attempt to interfere with our summer trip around the Maritimes. I predict we will beat her eleven times this season.
  

  FALSE

  Obviously, this one went out the window when Mother Nature washed the Lucas Oil 100 to August. We also had to move two events to Sunday dates making this prognosis as false as me saying I have a good arm to throw dash hats with!

Well, eight out of ten isn’t bad I guess. Speaking of ten, in the weeks leading up to the banquet, we will be recapping ten of the best moments of the tenth season of the CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock Tour. Before we get to the winter months though, the “open season” for Maritime stock car racing is in full swing. One of the CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour tracks is hosting an event this weekend as Oyster Bed Speedway swings into action with seven different divisions set to hit the high banked oval this Saturday, September 25th.
