Chevrolets Strong At Riverside Int'l Speedway

2008 was the year of the Chevrolet at Riverside International Speedway.

In fact, in the last six CARQUEST Pro Stock Tour races (two seasons) at the facility, only one winner has not been behind the wheel of a GM product. The Chevrolet drivers will attempt to keep the streak of four straight Chevy wins at the track alive by winning #5 at the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100 on Saturday night.

The '08 edition of the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100 saw two-time Series champ Shawn Tucker of Fredericton rocketing his Rockico Truck and Trailer Chevy Impala into victory lane in what would turn out to be his only series triumph last season. He'll be hoping to ride momentum off a top five run last week at the Best of the Best 100 lapper at Speedway 660, which some of our MPST drivers took place in during our off weekend!

Two winners at the track from one season ago also had rough luck at the Lucas Oil 100 two weekends ago. A winner in James River last year, Craig Slaunwhite, is looking to follow up his EIT Race Radio Rookie of the Year season with a few more trophies to add to his collection from 08 but a wreck took himself and Tucker out of the Lucas Oil 100 early in the running. The #99 Halifax Glass and Mirror Chevrolet Impala from Terence Bay will look to rebound at the site of his first MPST win last summer on Saturday.

Another threat to win anytime the series rolls into the Antigonish area is Crapaud, PEI's Kent Vincent. Vincent will try to make it two-in-a-row for Island drivers following Greg Proude?s (Springvale, PEI) win at Scotia Speedworld two weekends ago. Vincent won a race on the high banks back in 2007 and ran second to Tucker last season in the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100. It is also worth mentioning that the #8 Vector Aerospace Dodge Charger won the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials, the Dartmouth Dodge Dash for Cash, and the Coast Tire Most Laps Led last season in the event. Though Vincent finished the Lucas Oil 100, an early accident put him three laps behind the leaders, something he hopes to put behind him with a win on Saturday.

Other former MPST winners at Riverside International Speedway that are on the entry list for Saturday's race include Mike MacKenzie (Dartmouth), former Series champs Wayne Smith (Timberlea), Rollie MacDonald (Pictou) and John Flemming (Halifax), Shawn Turple (Enfield), along with teammates Donald Chisholm (Antigonish) and George Koszkulics (New Glasgow). They will be all chasing points leader Proude who turned in a great run at the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body last season before a flat tire caused him to fade late in the running.

Over thirty race vehicles are expected to vie for the twenty-six starting spots in the Ron MacGillivray Chevrolet 100. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials, the Dartmouth Dodge Dash for Cash, LiteCo heat races and the "B" feature will set the field for the 100-lap green flag main event. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials kick off around 5:10 with racing to follow. Fans in attendance will also be treated to the Highland Building Supplies Sportsman Series as they run a 50-lap feature prior to the Pro Stock boys attacking the track. With that — keep the hammer down and we'll see you at the track on Saturday!
