Exide Batteries Rookie Preview: #14 Terry Dougay

The PEI Modified division has produced some of the best Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour drivers we have in the series. Names like Vincent, MacKinnon and Hicken are graduates of the top weekly division at Oyster Bed Speedway that have gone to victory lane on the Pro Stock Tour in the last two seasons and a long list of others have either grabbed a checkered flag on the Tour or have come close to that top spot in a feature event in the series. Terry Dougay is hoping to add his name to that list of drivers this season as he plans on embarking on the Tour in a quest to bring the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year Award home to Albany, Prince Edward Island.

Dougay has made a six pack of starts on the Pro Stock Tour in the last two season, including an appearance at Scotia Speedword, two races at Petty International Speedway and a trio of shows at his home track in Oyster Bed Bridge. Dougay is a veteran at the Oyster Bed Speedway in his Modified ride, winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 2004, which was followed up three seasons later with the biggest Weekly Racing Series prize at the track - the PEI Modified championship. With those accolades in the last near decade in the division also comes thousands of laps, hundreds of races and many checkered flags and trophies.

With those six starts on the Tour in the past two years, Dougay shouldn’t be taken lightly when it comes to being a contender for the Rookie of the Year Award on the Tour. He has nearly 600 feature laps of green flag, competitive experience under him in the #14 Wet ‘n Wild Carwash/Right on Board Locksmith Chevrolet, which is more than some of his peers vying for the freshman title have at this level of competition. Seat time and attitude at the track go a long way when it comes to learning a new car and a new track and Dougay has both of those. Whether it be in good or bad times, you can always find Dougay and his team with smiles on their faces as they go about their work at the track. Away from the track, Dougay enjoys coaching and playing hockey.

Dougay isn’t the only Prince Edward Island driver expected to vie for the title as fellow former PEI Modified champion Dylan

Gosbee of Cornwall will also be tough when it comes to Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year chase. If one of them is to take the title home to the red dirt, they will become the first since Dale Holmes in 2004 to bring the freshman championship to Prince Edward Island and only the third (Geoff Boyle did it in 2002) to capture the crown. They will have some stiff competition thoughout after watching Terry and Dylan over the past couple of seasons, I firmly believe they will be well up to the task!

The first attempt to take the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Race honors comes on Sunday, May 20th during the CARQUEST 100, the season opening event for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour at Scotia Speedworld. Tickets are available in advance by going to TicketAtlantic.com and more information on this event can be found at MaritimeProStockTour.com.

Until next week, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
